If you’ve ever searched for open source marketing automation, I’m sure you must’ve heard about Mautic. Obviously it is so popular in that realm. But have you ever wondered why Mautic is so popular?

It’s because of its features.

So we’re gonna talk about those Mautic features in this article but before that, let’s clear the basics and know what Mautic is.

According to Mautic.org,

Mautic is an open-source marketing automation platform that provides you with the greatest level of integration and deep audience intelligence, enabling you to make more meaningful customer connections.

Simply put, Mautic is an open-source marketing automation software that helps in automating your daily repetitive marketing tasks. And it does that with the help of its features. So let’s talk about those Mautic features.

  1. Lead Management
  2. Multi-channel campaigns
  3. Contact segmentation
  4. Focus item
  5. Contact scoring
  6. Page builder
  7. Email builder
  8. Mautic forms
  9. User activity tracking
  10. Dynamic content
  11. Cross-platform integration

Let’s check them one by one.

1. Lead Management With Better Collaboration

Mautic helps businesses in managing their leads. Some effective Mautic features that help in this are Custom Fields, Lifecycle Stages, Tags. With these features, you can collect user data that can be used to organize your leads.

Custom fields are the data a user belongs to like Gender, Income, Age, Interests, etc. These custom fields help you filter users who share similar characteristics and makes it easy to pick a group of users for a specific campaign.

You can add stages like Subscriber, Lead, Qualified Lead for Marketing, Qualified Lead for Sales, Customer, and Evangelizer, in your workflows. It’ll help you understand your users better and to better organize your contacts as per their stages.

Not only this, but you can also add custom tags for every individual. Like if a user abandoned a cart, you can assign a “cart abandoner” tag to that contact. This tag will help you send cart abandonment emails to all those users who’ve abandoned their cart.

Moreover, different members of your organization can log in to Mautic and organize the data. This offloads your burden and improves team collaboration.

2. Multi-Channel Campaigns For Nurturing

With Mautic you can create multi-channel email marketing campaigns. The campaigns that are easy to build, understand, and execute. Brands can use these campaigns to nurture their contacts constantly. This is one of the most prominent features of Mautic.

What you need to do to create campaigns is to log in to Mautic. Navigate to Campaigns and start creating a new campaign. You can choose Actions, Decisions, and Conditions, for your campaign and it’ll be executed according to the instructions you’ve given.

3. Contact Segmentation For Targeting

One of my personal favorite features of Mautic. You can do contact segmentation with Mautic. This can be done by using Mautic filters, custom fields, or tags.

As I described in the first point, custom fields collect data, and this data goes into these fields through forms. With the help of this data, merchants can create groups and sub-groups of users by segmenting them and then target them with the relevant information.

I am running a sale for kid’s toys for example, I’ll create groups of those parents who’ve kids under 6–7 years of age. Targeting only those parents will convert more users instead of every group of parents.

4. Focus Item To Grow Traffic/ Sales

Focus item is a Mautic feature that shifts the focus of the visitors to a specific page, link, or product. Simply put, you can display popups on your website. These pop-ups can be a lead capturing form, a product page link, or a notice. They can prompt users to take action on your website.

If you’re running an offer on a specific product, you can add a popup to display that offer to every visitor. You can tweak the settings like the look and feel of that popup, its style, timing, etc. Similarly, if you want to capture leads, you can use forms to display on your website to gather data of the users who visit your site.

5. Contact Scoring To Identify Hot Leads

You may have many contacts on your list but not everyone will be ready to purchase. Here you can use this Mautic feature called contact scoring to assign scores to contacts if he takes an action. Actions like opens an email visits a landing page, submits a form, etc. Leads with high scores can be converted easily.

For example, if some users are visiting a specific landing page on your site and spending a good amount of time there, you can assign a score to those users. The contacts with a good score indicate that those users are interested in that product, and a perfect sales pitch can convert them.

6. Page Builder To Create Converting Landing Pages

The Mautic page builder feature helps you create landing pages. It doesn’t require any effort apart from dragging and dropping a few items here and there. You just need to select the theme, title, alias, category, etc. and start creating your landing page.

You can add text, images, videos, buttons, social share icons, dynamic content, etc. in your landing pages. Once everything’s done, you can publish the page.

7. Email Builder To Make Aesthetic Emails

Creating emails with Mautic isn’t a nut job. It has an email builder feature that lets you create emails by dragging elements here and there just like landing pages. You can use the emails you’ve created in campaigns and other activities.

Just select the email type you want to create like a template email or a segment email. The difference between both is that a template email cannot be sent to a specific contact segment but a segment email can be.

You can also dynamic content in your emails to personalize your emails.

8. Mautic Forms To Capture Leads

Forms are an essential feature of Mautic. This feature lets you create forms to collect user data. Just like emails, there are two types of forms in Mautic:

  1. Campaign Form
  2. Standalone Form

A campaign form can add a contact directly into a campaign whereas a standalone form can add a contact into a segment but not into a campaign.

Select what type of form you want to create. If you want to capture your visitors' data, you can create a standalone form and display it on your website with the help of a focus item feature.

If you want to create a complete campaign, target, or retarget your contacts, you can create a campaign form.

9. User Activity Tracking To Understand Your Users

This Mautic feature is a great way to learn your user behavior on your website. You can check their activities, page visits, etc. to understand their likes and dislikes.

You simply need to add some code on your website to start tracking the pages users are visiting, learning what products they’re interested in, etc. this helps businesses a lot to understand the behavior of the audience and change their strategies accordingly.

10. Dynamic Content For Personalization

The dynamic content feature can be used in emails to create a more personalized experience for your users. There are two types of Dynamic Web Content(DWC) items in Mautic:

  1. Filter-Based
  2. Campaign Based

Explaining how to set up dynamic content in Mautic will extend this blog unnecessarily. You can check this guide to learn how to set up Dynamic Content in Mautic.

In Mautic, you can create slots or tokens that can be added to your landing page content or email body.

For example, you can create tokens like {leadfield=name} and {leadfield=email} and add these tokens in your email body. This will fetch and replace the contact's name and email making the content more personalized. You can also use these tokens to send offers, coupon codes, etc. to your subscribers.

11. Integration To Use It On Other Platforms

Mautic can be integrated with other different platforms. This gives users the freedom to connect it with the tools they use for their business. There are many different third-party plugins that provide integration of Mautic with eCommerce platforms, social media, etc.

One popular Mautic integration is their integration with WooCommerce which is a complete marketing automation kit for start-ups and businesses around, which helps you connect WooCommerce store with Mautic and send your customer data in real-time.
